cackhanded is left handed? clumsy? I found them in a website as synonims or equivalents in American-British English! thanks

I think of cackhanded as lacking in co-ordination, not necessarily left-handed but it may have originated from the idea of left-handedness as not desirable as it was the case in my mother �s time back in 1920 �s and 1940 �s She used to have her hand whacked with a ruler for writing with her left hand.

The meaning is "to be left handed", or at least the original was. Nowadays it could also refer to clumsiness, due mainly to the left handed person appearing clumsy. It originated in the time when the left hand was used to wipe ones bottom. Hence crack handed also called crap handed.
