Wow... I guess we have to say that it has quite a few names!!!

LOL

There �s no right or wrong... if you google it, you �ll see that all the choices go for that.

I confess that I �ve only seen two, I mean in movies, life buoy and life saver, but probably in other regions they use the others.

From a Canadian point of view -- just north of the lifeguard.  I �d also use "life preserver"

Life saver used to be more common until they made a candy that looked like one and called it "lifesavers" (very common in the USA)--now most poeple use life preserver.
