International phonics.

Have any other teachers who speak English as a 1st language and work abroad, experienced any difficulties with students who have learnt English using international phonics and local teachers. I find a lot of these students speak poor English and have difficulties understanding real English. |

I worked in a school once where they were introducing the jolly phonics system but I ve never been a fan. I teach some phonetics as part of a lesson but don t focus on it unless the students are already familiar with the phonetic alphabet. Young learners I try to introduce a little to the alphabet but again, it s not a focus.
I ve never had experience of students having been taught phonics so it s never been a problem. I m not sure how popular it is in Spain.
