You could also ask your students to make a research on this topic.
They could bring posters made by them, inspiring sentences or quotes, pictures...
They could also check out on famous personalities who fought against racism like Luther King. His speech(I have a dream) could be a good start!!Hope it s useful!! |

I take an add from any magazine and ask my pupils what is being advertised and why? Then I show them an ad like this one and ask them what is being advertised and why?
It usually gets their interest - then I do a short history of the slave trade to the USA and the war of Independence and Abraham Lincoln - against slavery. I do a time line from slavery to the Ghettos, segregation etc. I also use a picture of a whites only drinking fountain.
Dont forget to talk about how Americans of color call themselves and why?
Black Americans
Afro-Americans
Hope this helps,

I use the film "Mississippi Burning" when dealing with racism. It s quite a good film set in the Southern States of America in the 60s with the KKK. |

Oh, and of course, the movie Crash. Very interesting well made movie, with lots of examples of different types of discrimination and racist acts. |
