Hello! i think there is a difference indeed: I use claws when I want to indicate the nail in an animal paw, that should be the equivalent to hand in human terms. I hope you catch it.

According to my modest knowledge,claws are mostly restricted to birds � retracting nails.Paws are clawed feet of an animal,especially quadruped(four-legged animals) ones such as lions;tigers ;wolves...etc

Kate is correct... Most animals with paws also have claws... i.e. nails...
Cats have claws in their paws!
