Next to or next?

Hello everybody. It s spring at last! Let s hope it ll be a good one!
I need your help, please.
Some days ago I helped my godson with his homework and we wrote the sentence "I saw you standing next to your motorbike". His teacher considered it wrong and she wrote "I saw you standing next your motorbike".
What do you think? Was our sentence really wrong?
Thank you
Mariannina

Hi Mariannina! I like your new avatar!
"I saw you standing next to your motorbike." is correct. Also "I saw you standing near your motorbike." but definitely not "next your motorbike".
Have a nice day! |

Your Godson is correct and the teacher is wrong! You stand next to something. But you can be next in line.
Smart godson!

your teacher is wrong . we say " you stand next to someone or something" next by itself means later, after so it can t be next |
