Dear teachers, Which is more correct ( any fruit and vegetable/ fruit and vegetables )counts towards your daily........ I came across the following phrase in our textbook , the second one I mean , but I think it does not fit here because it follows the quantifier any .Am I right ?

The plural vegetables can follow the quantifier. The reason the second sentence can t be correct is because counts will only be preceded by the third person singular and vegetables is third person plural.
Personally I would say Any fruit or vegetable counts towards your daily.... or Any fruit or vegetables count towards your daily...
Hope that helps!

I agree with Isnorton99, except for the second choice, "Any fruits or vegetables count..." sounds more natural, since it is plural, but we are thinking of them individually. I would never say "Any fruit count towards your daily...", but I would definitely say "Any fruits count towards your daily...".
Also, to use "and", you would use "All" instead of "Any". "All fruits and vegetables count...".
