Difficult students

United States

Another idea is to stop taking oral questions. If students have a question, tell them they must ask you in written form, or privately, or in some creative way you find that eliminates them trying to disrupt the class or take the focus away from the teacher directed activity. Often, the culprit who asks ridiculous questions or tries to take you down a rabbit trail is really just trying to get attention to themselves from the other students and set himself/herself as the superior in the class.
