Teaching Grammar in context (The Passive - Past and Present)
Hi dear colleagues! I ve just prepared a game to practise the Passive with my pupils and I wanted to share it with you all. Hope you find it useful:
The Passive:
Start a chain game. You previously prepare some flashcards with a few short stories in the active voice in different tenses. You give in one flashcard to the first student in one line (ss are supposed to work in
line). This student has to turn the first sentence of the story into the
passive. The second student will repeat the same passive sentence and add the
next sentence in the passive (that is also provided on the flashcardThe
game goes on. If a student makes a single mistake, the line stops playing and
another line starts again. The game finishes when all the lines have tried a
chain. The winners are the students in the line that could memorize more
passive sentences. Suggested stories:
Story (1): PRESENT A woman in love 1. Someone rings the bell.
2. A young lady opens the door.
3. A delivery boy gives her a bunch of red
roses with a card.
4.She puts them in a vase and reads the
card.
5. She shows a big smile and puts the card under
her pillow.
Story (2): PASTAnimals
in danger 1. In
the past, people took elephants from the wild in Thailand.
2. They sold them to work.
3. They used them for cutting down the large trees of the forests.
4. Later on, the Royal Family and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released these elephants from captivity.
5. They put the poor animals back into their natural environment.
