I have a question regarding the passive form of the following sentence:
The mayor spent a lot of money on improvements. How is it correct? A lot of money was / were spent on improvements? Thank you in advance. |

Money isn t countable (only banknotes and coins are), so it s singular!! Therefore, it has to be "was", definitely not "were".

When a plural noun follows a lot of, number of, or majority of, we normally use a plural verb. Hope it helps! |
