translation of "enseñanzas mínimas"

Hi everyone, could you help me translating the noun phrase "enseñanzas mínimas"? Is it "minimum contents? How would you translate it into English?
Thanks in advance,

Hi peiolei!!
I think you are right, that is, I would say "minimum contents". I think in Spanish "enseñanzas mínimas" and "contenidos mínimos" are the same.
Competencies are different from contents.
Let ´s see what other people think!!

Hi peiolei, I would use core curiculum to refer to "enseñanzas mínimas". I wouldn ´t use competences since competences are "competencias". Hope it helps. MsPoppins

Hi, when I sat for the state exam some years ago, I wrote "Minimum contents". This is the right expression. Good luck!

Dear All,
I ´m going to try and explain my view. First we need to differenciate two aspects:
1st- the subjects all the students must learn at each level(ESO-BACHILLERATO); they are central and compulsory for all students of our school system.
2nd- the basic contents each subject must contain.
Both (subjects and contents) are set in the same BOE document and all educational regional authorities should stick to it.
This example may make my point clearer: if I talk about the core curriculum (="enseñanzas mínimas") I will talk about English, Spanish Language, Physical Education... whereas if I talk about minimum contents(=contenidos mínimos") I would need to refer to the minimum contents for a secific subject (minimum contents for PE, minimum contents for English...)
Thererore, since peiolei´s doubt was about "enseñanzas mínimas" I still recommend the term "core curriculum". Hope it helps. MsPoppins

I was referring to the second option: minimum contents for English. Thanks for your great explanation.
Have a nice weekend,
