When I was a kid we called it a pommel horse.  I checked on the internet, and this one would represent an old style without handles.  Nowadays at  gymnastics events you would see handles on them.  The whole sport is gymnastics, but this event is the pommel, or perhaps more correctly, the pommel horse.

Its called "vaulting horse" as a variant of pole-vaulting, Yelena Isinbayeva�s favourite Olympic sport...Wink

I agree with dturner, the "horse" with handles is referred as pommel horse. The one without them receives the name of "vaulting horse" cause the sportsman/woman has to leap on the horse table instead of performing a series of continuous movements such as scissors, leg swings, circles or handstands.
