My family has met is grammatically correct, but met is a word used in sentences like "The school board met for the vote."

The committee met to discuss the bill.

The president met with his cabinet to ...

The employees and  boss met to ...

Families get together.
Families  visit each other.

Maybe families meet when they have an agenda to discuss?

My family met at the mall and then we went shopping.

Let s see what others say.

has met .... family is a collective noun so it needs a singular verb, met is ok since it means they gather together, a reunion.

This has come up on the forums before:

Basically, both are correct although I d been inclined to agree with everyone else in saying that has met is better in this particular case.
