I lived in the US for 4 years. A friend of mine was at that time looking for a house. She always talked about having to meet with the "realtor" and calling "the realtor".

In the US, the terms "real estate agent" and "realtor" are used interchangeably, because most people don �t know that to be called a "realtor", the agent must be a member of a certain organization (The National Association of Realtors, I think). Babs provided "real estate broker", which is correct, but not commonly used.
