Help with a Hebrew word, hitnudav
|
Hello friends,
I am doing a little research on newly created words that would have previously been considered as grammatically incorrect. For example, "He was suicided" or "He was volunteered".
Is this Hebrew word, hitnudav, similar? What is its literal translation? Can you use it in a sentence? |

I don t think you can say: He was suicided. It is somethiing he does to himself. He committed suicide or He suicided. 8-) |

"I wanted to mention the hitputar example from Hebrew but have been beaten to it. So I can throw in the identical formation of hitnudav, which is based on hitnadev to volunteer and nudav to be volunteered (object) , and means to be made volunteer against one s will ." |

hitnadev: he volunteered התנדב
mitnadev: he volunteers
from "nadiv": generous
I ve never heard of hitputar/ hitnudav / nudav - maybe they re grammatically correct but they aren t used in spoken language.
"hitpater" means "he resigned" התפטר - "putar": has been fired. פוטר
