in my opinion it should be like this:"She had already talked to a professional horse trainer before and he drove down to Florida with her." (he or she) should refer to the trainer in order to avoid ambiguity. just an opinion

This sentence (and possibly the others for your test) is much too ambiguous for a formal test. Test questions should be crystal clear and there shouldn �t be any discussion possible about the answer (like we�re doing here now).
