MISTAKES
|
Talking about mistakes, I think we have already said several times that we shouldn t say "Open your books ON page...", but "Open your books TO page...". I have found this mistake in many worksheets.

Hi Yolanda, Can you post a link to the discussion about that mistake in the forum from before. I d like to read it, as in my country "open your books on page..." is widely used. Sophia |

As a native speaker I never say open your books to ????? Maybe others do.
These are correct:
Open your books at Page 23.
He had his book open at page 23.
Turn to page 23 of your book.
On page 23 there is a picture of a confused English teacher. |

Apolo, definitely "turn to page..." but "open your books to page"?
I understand that there was a discussion in the forum before, so can anyone post a link to it? Sophia |

Yes. I opened my book at P23, because I finished reading at P23.
I read from page 15 to page 23.
He opened the magazine at the index, then turned to page 23 to read the article.
The article was on page 23.
to implies a movement towards - turn to page 23
at implies you ve found the page - you are at the page
on tells what words and pictures are printed there - Read the first paragraph on page 23

I think we should open two different new threads.
One about the typical mistakes that our students make.
One about typical mistakes that teachers make.
