i īm so stressed...

I know it īs not the right place to complain, but since I also need your advice...
I īve just learnt yesterday that this year I will teach high school students (15-18 years old) while all summer i īve been preparing myself to teaching in a middle school (11-15)...
i īve already taught in high school but i īm more of a "middle school" teacher if you see what I mean: i love playing games with my students, using their creative mind to teach them... and i don īt feel like i īll be a good high school teacher! especially since i spent my summer planning lessons for middle school pupils, so i īve got nothing prepared for more advanced classes! and of course, i don īt have the course books my students will be using, so i can īt prepare something in the few days i have left...
and I dread teaching English to "BAC" students: what if they fail their end-of-school exam because of me???
Anyway, I need your help: if you are a high school teacher, can you tell me which worksheets you use? if you can give me advice, i īll appreciate! i īm so stressed...
thank you so much!!!

1) Try to contact your colleagues as soon as you can. I hope they help you.
Try this:
2) Try to adapt what you have already prepared! Use more complicated vocabulary and try to find audio recordings and videos.
3) Your "BAC" students will not fail because of you, they will fail because of what they did not do / learn. The final test is not about what they learnt in Terminale only, it is about all they know about English since they started to learn that language!

Hi Elodie !
I am a high school teacher ! Don īt get anxious ! just stay as you are ! I was a middle school teacher 12 years ago and then I changed , you don īt have to worry as soon as you get your teaching method you will be able to organise yourself. Worksheets from ESL are quite suitable, too.
When the exams come and I know that " I have done my job" I have no regrets if they fail because it īs my students responsability to prepare themselves for the exams.
Most of the time, I have revision with them till January and then I work only with old exams copies so that they know exactly what will happen in June. I start revising the vocabulary at the end of the year, too.
Send me a pm if you want more information
Cheer up !

Dear Elodie,
I know exactly how you feel, last year I was told one week before school begins that I would have "BTS" students! I was so stressed, I didn īt know what to do and I dreaded to fail teaching them something! If you are stressed it īs because you feel concerned about their success, you want their well-being, which tells me that you īre on the right track! High school students are not that different from the students you are used to: the "2nde" for example are still "babyish" and need all your attention. You can still use games and use their creativity to work, they love it. The "tle" are more intimiditading, but they īre still students willing to learn and even to play!!! Believe me, they will greatly appreciate your middle school type of teaching because you will have to heart to teach them the basis in a simple way, and you will make them "play" and learn. Also, you can use role plays, videos and songs.... The only difference is that you will have to provide them with more elaborate vocabulary, complex structures, teach them to think and have ideas, show them how to organize their thought and deal with important issues.
But I īm sure you īll manage and do a great job!
If you feel lost and don īt know how to start, you can send me a PM, I īll be glad to help!
Have a nice day

let me know what you need, Elodie, what your subjects are. I īm starting a course with students who are in their 7th year of English. The subjects will be British History, American Dream, political speeches, decolonisation (India), Indians and Pakistanis in Britain (and their literature) Then short stories, novels, and, of course, Shakespeare.
In my first lesson on Monday I will start off with a sort of game that gets them to talk after their holidays - and some end-of-holidays cartoons they have to analyze
I will be doing quite some language revision at the beginning starting off with phrasal verbs and prepositions: http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=380389#thetop http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=380401#thetop http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=380033#thetop http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=379572#thetop
After that I will be doing exercises on style (linking words, using the gerund...) And after that I will delve into the American Dream with them.
Unfortunately, you don īt find much really advanced stuff here. Let me know what your themes will be this year!

Hi Elodie, I do understand what you feel, I had the same kind of īexperience when I was TZR. I had never taught in high school except for 6 weeks when I was at the iufm, so, .... Imagine!!!
But things will be okay, it īs true that 2nde are still babyish.... and not as good at English as we could think....
