I am sure someone once posted a way of editting youtube vids- I want to take a piece of one. does anyone remember it? thanks in advance

The way I did it was use a youtube downloader to get the video and then use an editing software (such as windows movie maker or sony vegas) to cut the piece that I want. Depending on the editing software you use, you may have to convert it to a different format first. Most youtube downloaders require you to download it in the FLV format. Some will let you choose your type. Good luck!
