I need your help once more. When you are reading a book and you want to say how many chapters you ve read so far, which preoposition is correct: I m on /at /in chapter ten. Thanks in advance for your always helpful answers.
As an American, I would say I m on Chapter 3 if I had read all of Chapters 1 and 2 and some of Chapter 3 but not all of it.
I would say I m up to Chapter 3 if I had read all of Chapters 1 and 2 but not any of Chapter 3. And exception to this would be if I said, "I m up to the end of Chapter 3." which would mean that I had read all the way up to the very end (or almost the very end) of Chapter 3.
I believe at only works for British English and means the same as up to.
To clarify you can also say "I ve read all the way up to Chapter 3, but I haven t started it yet."
