help with modals. Is this rephrasing correct?

Hello everybody !!

Can you help me qith this sentences?
"Anne finished the project on her own although it wasn t necessary to do so"
Anne didn t have to finish the project on her own

or

Anne didnt have had to finish the project on her own.

I think the first one is correct but another teacher said to my pupils that the second one is better.

Any idea????

thanks !!!!!!

Thanks Chus.

I said to my pupils both of them, the sentence with "needn t" and the first one. The problem is that the other teacher and I had a different opinion about the sentence with "didn t have to"

Thanks a lot for your help Wink

I think the first one is correct, too. ("Anne didn t have to finish the project on her own")

The second one is definitely not correct - what sort of tense/ modal is didn t have had to?

An even better suggestion, since Anne has already finished the project on her own anyway, would be: "Anne needn t have finished the project on her own", which suggests that it wasn t necessary for her to do so, but she did anyway.

I agree with magneto.

Anne didn t have to finish the project on her own.  is correct.

Anne didnt have to have finished the project on her own.  is not correct.

Anne needn t have finished the project on her own. is correct.

Why is this sentence wrong:

Anne didnt have to have finished the project on her own. ????

I need an explanation to tell my colleague

Thanks
