cod: A codpiece was something that was once used to cover men �s private parts
swallow: a bird or the action of consuming things
op: short for operation
so a codswallop must be the medical procedure done when a man gets a bird stuck in his pants.
Okay all those with a dirty mind should now be ashamed!

A Codswallop is a dance: Cods Water Gallop, when COD stands for Creatures Obsessed with Dancing (that �s why a cod is called a cod, e.g. dancing fish).
See, for example, this passage from "The Little Mermaid":
"Once a week a big party has been held at the Sea King �s palace, where his fair daughters, the mermaids, were codswalloping merrily, accompanied by their faithful friends - dolphins, cods, jellyfish and octopi..."
