Well I asked that because I found that question in one worksheet from this page, let me show you :
1. (Who, What) is he? He is a driver.
2. (Who, What) is she? She is Mrs. Sonya.
3. (Who, What) is she? She is a nurse.
So I wanted to be sure, coz I m gonna use this worksheet with my Ss. |

Yes you can say it, but it is usually used when careers or professions are already the topic of discussion. |

The only time I d ask What are you? is at a Fancy Dress Ball and the person was dressed as an object eg: a bottle of beer.
You can t use this question to ask about someone s occupation.
For occupations: What do you do?
Ive just seen your next post with the worksheet examples:
You can say What is he/she? when looking at pictures of people with students.
or What are you? in a guessing game. |
