To come across is to find something by chance (an object) To bump into is to meet someone by chance (a person) |

Thank you for your help. I thought so, but when I checked the usage of them in Oxford Advanced Learner �s Dictionary I found that come across is used as follows: come across sb / sth. I also found an example in which come across is followed by an object denoting a person. |

to come across sb/ sth: to meet sb or to find sth by chance to bump into sb: to meet sb unexpectedly (�> same as come across) BUT to bump into sth: to accidentally hit against sth
