Clicker or remote control?
|
I ve got a question concerning the word - clicker. Can we use it to talk about a remote control? Somebody told me that only children use it. Is it true? Thanks very much for your help. Ania

Hi, kids use it and I heard it used sometimes in AmE...most people, though, use the word remote .
Have a good day!

It is common in AmE, among adults as well as children. Bruce |

We use remote here (Austalia) - I ve never heard it called a clicker, though others may have.
What is the usual term in the UK? |

I have a childrens story with the word clicker - but have never heard adults just the word. My dad called it a zapper because we zapped through the channels! I call it a remote.

It s called a remote control or a clicker. It s also called a channel changer. In my family, we call it a clicker or a channel changer. Really people, brush up on your vocab or watch more tv! |

It has different names depending where you hail from & what standard English your country uses: UK or US english.
Remote and clicker are same but clicker is predominantly US english (I believe) |

Clicker is generally used to refer to that device that opens garage doors. |

Not here its not, we call that a remote too. English might be universal but its not the same everywhere. |
