Dear friends, Due to olindalima s,Linda s post I found the promethean activstudio and activprimary and I was wondering if there is a way to see what she designed,a player for flipchart files? I am also very new in IWB and until now I thought you only use docs and ppts and programs from the pc.I have also asked again and I am asking again today if there is a way to find the sound, pronounciation of a word or phrase, download it and insert it in a wss.I was given the howyousay site and I downloaded verbose text to speech. Is there anything I can find ?I can not record my voice as I am not a native teacher. Any other software to design whiteboard wss? I am at a loss because I was told to do x but noone can quide me how to do it. Please help.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you nika114

Hi Nika
There is not much I can help, I am still starting to learn. Anyway, you can download activinspire here:
http://support.prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=nav.17508
As far as audio is concerned, you can google " Text to Voice / Text to Speech " and you ll get many answers. Some are on line applications, others are downloadable to your computer. Some provide a chance of saving the audio, usually in a .wav format. Some ( few ) are free, others are for you to pay. I spend quite a good part of my money buying things to work at school - I haven t decided, yet, to buy anything related to audios.
I used this one http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php, it s online and you can save the audio to your laptop. However, it s a beta, so, I guess it will be for free for some more time, but then, we will have to pay for it.
If you manage to download the activinspire and want to give it a try I can send you some links ( Baiba sent me a few and I have some more, my problem is that I still don t know what is better, where we should start at, which things are easier or more difficult, so I am not a good teacher )
But I m sure there are many people here who can give a hand.
Hope you find something useful here.
Good luck
Linda

There s also the notebook software for smart boards. In the gallery you can find sounds/words pronounced.
When I first started working with Smart boards I found all kinds of words/expressions on the net - unfortunately I can t remember where - but have them on my computer if you are interesed. What kind of IWB have you got?

I ve used this site for recording words and sentences for my PPT presentations. The instructions are straightforward: type the word, phrase or sentence, listen to it, if you like the way it sounds download it. You can choose different voices. American, British etc., both male and female. I hope this helps. http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php |
