Limericks

Hi Teachers
Yesterday as an experiment, I used a limerick with my class. This one:
There once was a lady from China
Who went for a cruise on a liner
She slipped on the deck
And twisted her neck
And now she can see right behind her
It was a big hit with the students (intermediate adults) and I found it very useful for pronunciation practice ... rhythm, stress patterns and rhyme.
Now I d like to collect more limericks. Does anybody know any good ones? The most suitable for students would preferably avoid obscue or very difficult vocabulary ... and of course they can t be dirty!
What s your favourite limerick? Post it here!
Thanks
Brian

Brian, my fav. limerick is this one. I think the voc is quite simple and the context is not provocotive
Here: There was an Old Person of Dutton,
Whose head was as small as a button;
So, to make it look big,
He purchased a wig,
And rapidly rushed about Dutton. |

I worked with limericks a lot and have some in my printables. I believe franknbea has also done the same. Absolutely fun! |

There is a limerick I have used becuase it contains two meanings of "slip on" A woman called out with a frown, When surprised by some callers from town, "In a minute or less I ll slip on a dress." But she slipped on the stairs and came down. One that I learned as a child and always liked: There once was a lady from Niger Who smiled as she rode on a tiger. They came back from the ride With the lady inside And the smile on the face of the tiger. Bruce |

Anitarobi and les posted limericks (albeit with a difference :) under the Word of the Day for today!

Dear Brian,
Here s one that I have written, especially for this Post.
A Mouse and She-Elephant Teacher,
Were married, in front of the Preacher:
As they stood side-by-side,
He said: Now, kiss the Bride,
But, sadly, the Mouse couldnt reach Her.
