PODSLURPING - WOD īs this?
|
By way of thanks, Marion, I īm going to suggest a word which was chosen as Word of the Year by Australia īs own Macquarie Dictionary in 2007:
PODSLURPING
What īs this?
Don īt look it up, but if you know the meaning, keep it to yourself. Play the game and give your quirkiest, wittiest or daftest interpretations.
And remember, there īs absolutely no pressure on you. If you enter but have no interest in providing the next WOD/POD, nobody īs going to make you. |

Close, but not quite, dear Effie
Rather than "slurping" these ehm... intimidating guys, podslurping is actually and obviously one of the latest trends among i-pod enthusiasts.
Just watch the video:

Hi there! There are different kinds of words that appear in this game. Not long ago, members started posting whole phrases instead of words, which caused the game to be renamed POD instead of WOD. Some words/phrases were associated with sailing, others with Medicine etc. So, I suppose if someone chose a phrase related to cooking, like something really delicious, for us to define, that POD would be...Podslurping!!! Podslurping is done by podslurpers, or in layman īs terms, fruit bats! These fussy little animals fly around at night, going from fruit tree to fruit tree, taking one juicy bite (or slurp) from peaches, mangoes or kiwis. Then they throw the uneaten fruit to the ground and move on, in search of the next "pod to slurp".

A POD is a portable storage unit that has become very popular in the USA in the last decade. The large pods are delivered somewhere (like a moving van or sea/land container)where they are loaded with all types of cargo, most often household goods from families on the move, and are then brought to a storage location until the owner has it delivered somewhere for unpacking.
The problem with these pods is that you can never be sure of what is inside them--people could be filling them with anything from garbage to diamonds.
Among warehouse workers in the strage area sfor these pods it has become a popular past time to dare their colleagues to "podslurp".
We all know how machoism and/or peer pressure can affect some people, so many actually take the dare to establish their bravery (stupidity?) or "coolness".
Podslurping involves finding a pod where some kind of liquid is driping from it and licking up the liquid with ones tongue or slurping it through a straw.
Sometimes they get 40-year old scotch, other times it īs toilet bowl cleaner...yum, yum
Douglas
PS-I won īt be around on the weekend, so please don īt pick me unless you want to wait until Monday for the next POD. |

Guys, I īm veeeeeeeeeeery sorry to say, you ALL got it wrong.... you īre not understanding the hidden message here: POD = Phrase Of the Day SLURPING = USURPING (v.tr. 1. To seize and hold (the power or rights of another, for example) by force or without legal authority. ...) just for practical reasons, the "U" was omitted, and an "L" added, to make the phrase more "chic"... but PODSLURPING is what has been going on with WOD (Word of the Day) and POD (Phrase of the Day).... the second, has been USURPING WOD īS place in the forum, taking advantage of it īs little response sometimes, so there comes POD... livens up things here, but once in a while, WOD "awakens" like the Phoenix bird!!! Never dying!!! Now, as I would tell my students: Has everyone understood? Are there any questions??? |

𡦖ODSLURPING
You will all possess the text-book, 孏he Prebloms of
Mis-spelling, by Al Fabett, where he discusses Analysis-by-Synthesis. Here, he advises the Listener to extract
sequences of discrete phonetic, semantic and linguistic items from the continuous
acoustic signals in the utterances of the Speaker. You may recall his Never-to-be-Forgotten
advice: 尞isten for the juicy bits!
If we apply this theoretical approach to our Phrase
of the Day, we discover 𡦖ods 尞ur 𡦖ing.
Those of you with a 璌octorate in Botany, Doctorate
in Biology, Doctorate of Boyscouting, (璌ib, Dib, Dob), will immediately
recognise the characteristics of the Venus Try-Flap. This is a close relative, (by marriage), of
the fly-eating plant, the Venus Fly Trap. But, there is a subtle difference.
The Venus Try-Flap is a plant-eating fly. However, despite constant attempts, it cannot
fly, because it has no wings!
(If a 焅ly has no wings, should it actually be
called a 㜁alk?)
Moreover, the Venus Try-Flap has two huge pods protruding
from its head, similar to ears, and prominent teeth, giving it the appearance
of a harmless rabbit. These 𡦖ods
are not covered in sugary,
sticky liquid, and they act as a 尞ure to the plant victim, which is
curious about this apparent error. The
plant comes closer. Without warning, 𡦖ing,
the unsuspecting plant is struck violently by the elastic band held between the
fly𠏋 teeth and outstretched hands.
𡦖ods
尞ur 𡦖ing
You will find more details in, 璌angerous Plants, by
Dudley Knight Shade.
The mechanics of it are all explained in, 廍trength,
Stress, and Stretch, by Nick R. Elastik.
P.S.
A Special Note for our British Members.
In the local Free Newspaper, have you seen
the Advert for the Six-Foot Wide, Plasma TV, only Ten Pounds? Yes! Only
10.
Admittedly, the Volume Control doesn㦙 work,
but at that price, you can㦙 turn it down!

Podslurping is the contest of edamame eating and drinking beer. The fastest to eat not having dropped and left a bean in a pod is the winner. They īve got to do it so fast that literally you can hear them slurping...
