1. When I was in the nursery, all we did was play (games).
2. When I was in the nursery, all we did was playing (games).
Well, it has to be number 1 that is correct. |

I would go for the second one:
All we did was playing games. Playing games refers to an activity and activities, when introduced by a verb, take an -ing form. Am I right or wrong?
Somebody throw some light on this, please! Warm regards for everybody on this site. Leonor

The first is the correct one - but I d like to add, that in Britain, the nursery is a child s room in a house, but in the USA, a place where children are looked after, a kind of pre-school to a kindergarden, is called Nursery School or daycare Nursery.
Wikipedia: A nursery school is a school for children between the ages of
three and five years, staffed by qualified teachers and other
professionals who encourage and supervise educational play rather than
simply providing childcare.[1] It is a pre-school education institution, part of early childhood education.
nurseryNoun/ˈnərs(ə)rē/1. A room in a house for the special use of young children. 2. A place where young children are cared for during the working day; a nursery school.

Floona, NUMBER ONE "When i was in the nursery, ALL we did was play." "ALL we did was play." "ALL" = "The only thing." "The only thing we did was play." "What did we do?" "Play." ("Romp", "frolic", "caper", gambol", "frisk", "cavort", "enjoy ourselves", "have fun", "amuse ourselves", "play games", etc.) Les
