Thank you for your help. However in Project English textbook there is a quiz. What is the fastest animal in the world? a) a cheetah b) an ostrich c) a lion Why is there a then not the? Should the answer be The cheetah is the fastest animal... Why? Thank you again.

Hi, Martina. I know exactly what quiz are you writing about (just have finished the section with my class:o)) I always use "A cheetah is the fastest animal in the world", because I don �t mean any particular animal.

We use "the dolphin" when referring to the class of animals.
The giraffe is the tallest animal.
The cheetah runs at very high speeds.
