What ´s the difference?

Hi colleagues!
I ve been  thinking of teaching conditional types zero, one two and three to my pupils
, but what if my students asked me about the difference between conditional type zero ( if +present+ present) and conditional type one (if +present +will + bare infinitive) what would I say?
could you help me for example to know the difference between these two sentences:
1 If you press this button the machine works ( type zero)
2  if you press this button the machine will work (type one)
Thanks a bunch for your help Smile

Type zero is just a fact--it is true all the time

Type 1 is oriented at the future (you are contemplating doing it)

Type zero is actually not a "true" conditional--it s just a fact, type one is--you are speaking hypothetically ("If I do this...)

Zero Conditional is related to "Scientific and Mathematical" Truth. "If" Clause describes a condition that must lead to a fact or truth.

Consider the sentences:

1. If Sunshine falls, Ice melts. (Ice must melt in case Sunshine falls on it)

      2. It makes orange if red and yellow are mixed. (Scientific Truth)

      3. It makes golden colour if orange and yellow are mixed. (Scientific Truth)

      4. If blue and yellow are mixed, it makes green. (Scientific Truth)

      5. It makes four if two and two are added. (Mathematical Truth)

Now consider this sentence:

If you invite, I will go.

Here, the condition may be fulfilled, or may not be. If the condition is fulfilled, then, the Result - "My going" will be materialized, even it may not be. It is not hard and fast, rather it depends on the future circumstances.

That s all.

if + present -present is a fact or a scientifical rule
if + present -future is more hypothetical

Another thing that might help is that in Type 0, you can replace "if" by "when".

When you press this button, the machine works.
