Well, you can write simple sentences on big thick sheets :
the cat is black and white.
the cat is big and shy.
the dog barks loudly.
Is the cat brown ?
The dog is not small.
...
and then make puzzles of them and ask the students to play with them.
Once done ask the students to read the sentences.
You can play with dominoes half drawing-half word ; there are a lot of this kind of game here.
You can give a list of vocabulary and ask your students to make short sentences :
boy / girl / wizard...
A student could say : "I am a boy" or "I am not a girl"...
You can make cards with the different forms of "be" and "have" at the present and the preterit. Then place the personal pronouns (I, you...) in column and put the cards in a box. Ask the students to take a card and put it near a matching pronoun and find a short sentence : "he is kind" "Are you English ?"
You can work with cards : a big cat, a smoll cat, a blue bird....
Show a card and ask the student "Is the cat blue ?" or tell "If I say "the dog is big" am I right or wrong ?"...
And if you type board games on this site I am sure you will find plenty of games which will suit you and your students !
