Thank you very, very much for all these clear explanations!! I �m glad to see that I wasn �t that wrong at all, because I did say that one should rather use "Are you ready?" in situations where students are supposed to be prepared or to get ready for the next task. :-)))) - Silke

This is weird. There is no difference in using �are you ready? � if students need to get ready for the next task or not! Unless I �m totally missing the point. Also I think your English teacher was simply wrong. But as pointed out previously, being English doesn �t mean you can use the language correctly.

"Are you ready?" generally means "Are you prepared?"
A factor that may be confusing is that we often use "ready" with food to indicate that it is finished. However, we are actually saying it "is ready to be eaten?".
"Are you finished?" means "Have you completed what you are/were doing?". |
