Hello,
Just a small question, sorry if it sounds a bit daft. Does this answer sound right?
Question: What is your favourite animal?
Answer: My favourite animal is a rabbit.
I understand you can also say: I like rabbits but what about the answer above? This is what the majority of my students would say, and I am not entirely sure if this is correct.
The same is with food:
My favourite fruit is a peach.
Thank you very much
Have a good day, night :)

I think that you use THE here:
Question: What is your favourite animal?
Answer: My favourite animal is the rabbit. My favorite fruit is the peach - or I love peaches.
But it could be different from country to country.

It has to be the definite article, but most people will put it into the plural, anyway. Rabbits are my favourite animals.

I agree with "the" if you use the singular, or cunliffe s answer. You can also say "Rabbits are my favorite animal". If you say "My favorite animal is a rabbit", you are saying that one particular rabbit is your favorite animal. My favorite animal is a ferret. Her name is Ouizl and she s amazingly cute and friendly. Bruce |

Thanks Bruce
now, someone shows up speaking MY English - I was kind of depressive, cause I keep on correcting them to use the plural form.
Now , I know, I don t know anything.
Anyway., thanks, all of you increase my feeling of confidence, I think I can say almost everything, ... it will be more or less fine... somewhere around the world.
Hugs
Linda
