What do you recommend to teach to a 5 year old girl? I don;t need online games, maybe some handouts and ideas for games/ activities? Do zou think that 1 hour is too much-_----__

Use stories, songs (nursery rhymes), movement, senses, lots of pictures/flashcards and word games (what s missing, memory, yes/no...) and do role play. It all has to feel like a game. Don t use the school approach of children sitting in benches and teacher behind their own desks - sit on the carpet with the child and talk. Use interesting voices, lots of music.... Small kids are difficult but wonderful to teach and the feedback is instant - you ll know immediately if the child is bored or interested and they learn fast and are grateful for anything interesting... They re not ashamed or wrong pronunciation and their hearing is usually perfect... Plus, they re honest and joyous. teaching them is food for the soul. |

i am a teacher in a kindergarten.have been working for 5 months and these are the things i have learned so far: they love painting and singing songs! in my opinion,1 hour tutoring is enough because they cant focus on things for a long time and they get bored easily. You are lucky because children of 5 and 6 years old are easy to train. They love learning! they are very eager for doing different activities.these are some sites i visit often: http://www.activityvillage.com and http://www.tlsbooks.com there are many inspiring ideas and activities there

Dear Mirela, it always depends on the child and the activities you prepare. I ve been working with groups of children that old and if the lesson is creative and fun enough 45 minutes is no problem for them, even an hour. 4-year-olds have a shorter concentration span. However, if you don t change activities enough (3-5 different types of activities with a different approach to a topic) it gets dull for them and they lose interest. But I guess it s different with every child and teaching such a small kid one-to-one is quite different from working with a group. |

I agree with anitarobi if your lesson is fun and interesting then an hour is possible. You can use some puzzles too. Here are some how-to videos for games that would work with that age range. Picture this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN89oQ1eXC4
