Are the following sentences correct?
|
Hello dear colleagues Are the following sentences correct:
1. This idea finds me absolutely negative. 2. They need to control their emotions and anger in order such incidents to be prevented. (shouldn t it be "so that such incidents can be prevented") ?
Thanks a lot!

The first sentence sounds really awkward to me. What do you mean? Can you rephrase it? As for the second one, I d say: ..... "in order to prevent such incidents" I guess your passive sentence is correct too. I would even say: So that such incidents should be prevented. Let s wait for native speakers from every corner of the planet.

I would never say the first one. For the second one, I wouldn t use "should". I would say any of the folloring: ... in order to prevent such incidents. (from Mariethe) ... in order for such incidents to be prevented. ... in order that such incidents be prevented. There are many other options, too. Bruce |

Dear Lovely Lana, the first sentence makes absolutely no sense as it stands. If you want to express that you don t like the idea, you should say just that. Or what about This idea leaves me absolutely cold. or This idea does absolutely nothing for me. Hope that helps! |
