Well done, Marion.

I was just about to give the particle as a clue...

Oh, the hell with it...I ll give it anyway.

The second word is down.

I got that one straight away, Alex! So, what links -  promote, hang the shelves, increase, erect, stack.

And -  how do you show that a sheet of paper is a lazy dog?

Got the first (begins with r ). The second is a series of homophones/mondegreens - the sort of thing that creases maths geeks :) ...

No! I could add raise to the list, though...

Since my son told me the second one, which is apparently something called a mondegreen(!!!) but I just call it a play on words, you might be right about it appealing to maths geeks!

Anyway, here it goes.

A sheet of paper is an ink-lined plain. An inclined plain is a slope up. A slow pup is a lazy dog... Groan. Sorry.

The tension is killing me. The answer to mine is the opposite of the answer to Alex s.

Cunliffe,
could I add "letting someone sleep over" to the list?
What about "to stomach"?
