I always teach "fridge"which is the short name for "refrigerator."

I teach refrigerator, but I tell the students that fridge is short for refrigerator.

I think that here in the US, "fridge" is seen as more casual than in British English. I hardly ever say "fridge", so I don �t teach it, except as an informal alternative.
