Hello dear colleagues,
I ve written the transcript of the following video about China s Left Behind Children, but I m not sure about a word or phrase at 00:48. The girl is saying, "When I miss them, I write a letter, put it into a __________ , put it in the river hoping it will reach my mum and dad."

I would appreciate it if you could help me with this. Thank you!

What I understand is: "fold it into a bow shaped", which means that she folds the letter with the shape of a bow.

I think she s saying: "When I miss them, I write a letter, fold it into a boat shape, put it in the river..."
At least it makes sense... |

I think that it s "a letter fold into a boat shape", too. If you want to sent sth paper using current water you will arguably make a boat:) On the other side this girl s story is so sad. |

Hello, Serene. I m from China. I really want to help you, but I can t open your website. I guess the girl want to say" I fold the letter as a boat shape". In China, almost every children can fold paper as many shapes, such as boat, heart, frog, trousers, coat and so on. Just for fun. And the girl put the paper boat on the river. That means the boat will bring her love and missing to her parents. In ancient China, people do this to make a wish. Until now, many people still keep it. |

scasl, thanks a lot for your reply!
Greek children also like to fold sheets of paper into boat shapes and put them on the water.

I agree that it s "fold it into a boat shape". Her accent is difficult to understand. Orientals pronounce consonants differently, so they are often difficult to understand. Bruce |
