We call it “profesor de guardia”

Dear friends,

Apart from our teaching task, there are other duties that  Spanish teachers must fulfill and those include: watch the school corridors to check everyone is in class, phone a student’s  parents when she/he feels ill,  take care of a class when their teacher is absent, etc…

Can the teacher doing this be called “teacher on duty” (as for a doctor)? Is there a better name for this?

Thanks for your help

Dear friend,
Checking and monitoring school daily procedures concerning both order and discipline, particularly those which relate to students, are part and parcel of the work of overseers. There should be one general overseer ( e.g. a head teacher ) and two or more overseers to help him/her monitoring corridors, classrooms, WCs, and so on.
Thanks!

At the school where I worked, we said that the teacher was "on duty".  We said "I have duty during lunch" for example.
