It �s possible that you haven �t been answered because people are confused by what you mean by "private speech". If you elaborate on your question, you might get some help.

By private speech, do you mean the term that we use in psychology? In there it means like a language that you speak to yourself. It is not meant or directed to others and helps you to regulate and guide yourself. As far as I remember others might not even really understand your private speech without mistakes, as the words you are using are making connections to things in your own world and can only be interpreted by yourself with your own background of experience - complicated I know. Especially for children it has many benefits like self-regulation and guidance in behavior and emotional issues, motivation, creativity, memory, communication etc
You should be able to find more info about that topic if you look for the names Vygotsky and Piaget since it was them who studied private speech.
