gerund or infinitive

Hello everybody! Greetings from Kocaeli.

Is there a difference between two sentences?
a)She learnt to read  when she was four.
b)She learnt reading  when she was four.

Thank you!

As far as I know, a is correct, because learn goes with an infinitive. Check this list for instance http://www.englishpage.com/gerunds/infinitive_list.htm . Or this one:
Hope it helps!

As an American speaker, I would never use a gerund with learn. Anita is 100% correct. You can use a "pure" noun after learn, such as "My sister learned ballet when she was seven," but not a gerund. (We use learned in the USA, but I think British English still uses learnt.)
