Without a doubt, Les is confident that using "doubt" as a singular noun is not "proper" English--I have my doubts about this.

I have not a single doubt in my mind that the word "doubt", can be used used as a singular noun in �proper � English, (although I would use the phrase �Standard English �).  You may have your doubts about this --- I have no doubt about it.
