Don īt + Verb

Hello dear colleagues,
I need your help in the function of "Don īt + Verb". Does it express prohibition or warning? My colleagues at school taught it to their pupils as prohibition while I taught it as warning. I don īt know who is right and who is wrong.

Prohibition, as in, īDon īt do that!   It can also be a warning, when qualified, as in, īDon īt do that, unless you want to end up dead.

And a couple of other uses (I usually get these on a daily basis):
As advice: Don īt be so modest.
Or a wish: Don īt ever stop being so wonderful.

Sure you do, almaz. Also possibly, īDon īt be so absolutely over-educated. Wink
