is this sentence correct?

hello!
i m creating a new game and i m wondering if this question is correct:

I am the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world. Before Europeans colonized me, the Maya and the Aztec were 2 advanced civilizations on my lands.

What am I? Answer: Mexico

it sounds weird but it might be because i m tired...

can you help me rephrase it???

thanks a lot!

Elodie Wacko

P.S.: i m running out of ideas for the questions, so if you have any good ones (about history, geography or general knowledge) for intermediate learners, i ll welcome all the help you can provide! once the powerpoint is done i ll be happy to send it to you if you send me a PM with your email address... thanks again!

thanks,
yes it helps!  and I had already asked a question about the Eiffel Tower :)

some questions also look like that:

Who became the 44th President of the United States in 2008?

if the question is hard I give 3 possible answers and the pupils have to choose...

It s April soon, so how about a question related to Yuri Gagarin (as I was pointed out, in English, theres no y at the end of this mans first name), the first man who travelled to space?

The sentence is fine grammatically, if that s what s bothering you.
You could also use, "Before Europeans colonised me, the Aztecs and the Mayans had already established advanced civilisations within my modern borders." Depends on your class, I suppose.

I think it sounds odd to say "what am I" .  I think "what country am I" sounds better.

Here are some Ozzie questions for your quiz:

People say that this Commonwealth country is at the bottom of the world and is often called the land downunder. A common greeting is Gday and everyone says no worries instead of no problem.  What country am I?

My babies are called joeys.  I am a marsupial which means that I carry my joey in a pouch on my tummy. I am a macropod which means I have big feet?  What animal am I? (kangaroo)

I am a marsupial. When my joey is older you will often see it clinging to my back. I am aboreal which means that I can climb trees?  What animal am I? (koala)

Cheers

thanks Jayho :)
actually I found the question "what am I?" in a game I have at home: Usborne Travel Quiz Cards published in the UK.
for example: " I was the largest and most luxurious ship ever built. they called me unsinkable"... but I was sunk by an iceberg on my first voyage. what am I?"
Is it not correct then?

Yes, its perfectly all right. Youve already mentioned country, after all.

To me, what am I sounds fine for an object or for an animal but for a country it sounds odd, to me.  Not saying its incorrect, just that Ive never heard it termed like that before in a quiz.  Its a trivial point so no need to worry.

Cheers
