The War is Over by
David Rovics
The President stood in front of the jet planes
The rubble s all settled and democracy reigns
We ve defeated their army and taken control
Dropped thousands of bombs, and they ve taken their toll
The oil s on fire, just like the blood
Of a billion Muslims dragged through the mud
And the world is safer with the dictator gone
And their lot will improve with our corporate pawn
(...)
What does the last line mean? I d be extremely grateful if somebody could rephrase it for me. Thanks in advance!

It could mean a person who will be manipulated by others.

Their lot (= their lives/hopes etc) will get better with our corporate pawn. Who is the corporate pawn? The president, who does just as the big businesses tell him. The line is heavily sardonic or sarcastic; of course things will remain the same, or get worse, despite all the misery that has been inflicted on the Muslims. |
