HELP WITH VIDEO

Hi! Please I need help. Maybe its a silly question but I dont know how to go about it. The thing is, Id really love to work with more video and films in class, but I dont know how to select the material. What criteria do you use to choose appropriate material for your classes? I see that many of you work with whole films, but I dont have time to do that in my classes, since I meet each class twice a week for one hour at a time, so I should work with shorter clips. Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi

Here are 3 suggestions:
http://www.english-trailers.com/ has movie trailers and exercises with them for higher levels usually
you can show commercials http://www.veryfunnyads.com/
you can look on www.youtube.com or www.teachertube.com to find interesting video on a topic you want
http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/ has some interesting vids on culture, world issues and animals

Have fun!

Why dont you work with some tv series? They last approximately 30/40 minutes and you can work with them during several classes. Last year, my 9th grade students watched 2 LOST episodes and they loved them! I also had 2 separate periods of 1 hour each so I decided not to watch films with that group. Check their likes too! You can profit a lot from the choices of your students!
Another option could be to choose scenes from different films that go along with the syllabus/coursebook unit you are working with. You can choose the length, the vocabulary and, what I think is the best about this, is that you can motivate your students with creative post-watching activities.
How to choose appropriate material? I guess its a matter of personal choice generally. Lots of people love working with the Simpsons, though others dont like them. I dont know the age of your students, but you can always check their likes or try to show them some series you like.

Hope this helps!
