Overlook and forget
|
Hello dear teachers!
Could you help me telling me the difference between overlook and forget? For example: In the sentence: She forgot / overlooked to tell you about his visit. Whis is the correct verb?
Thanks in advance! Greetings from Mexico! =) |

Hello Lizgc7, Here is a site that could help you determine the difference. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/forget In the third definition 3(A) there is a hyper-link to the word overlook. Hope it helps you. |

Just from a grammatical standpoint, forget can be followed by to <verb>, as you have in your example, whereas I really don t think that s acceptable for overlook. The latter must be followed by a noun phrase. So, to use your example, it would be either
She forgot to tell you about his visit
or
She overlooked telling you about his visit. |
