As a Brit, I would call it a hat stand although we use it for coats (don �t ask why!). As for MoodyMoody �s contribution, guess what? as usual, over the pond we would call the "coat rack" the "coat hanger." Of course, in daily life, when in doubt we just say, "the thing that you hang coats on." You �ve opened up a can of worms there Benitto!  |

Well down here at the bottom of the world it can be called many things:
coat rack coat stand hat rack hat stand (though not many people wear hats these days)
As for the coat hanger, that �s only for what MM describes.

We have one of these at our house and we call it a hat stand, but it also has extra hooks for coats. Ours also has scarves and even a small bag under those coats! I wear hats all the time (and I didn �t bother to tidy it up before taking the photo) .

I am from the midwest, Iowa, and we call it a clothes tree. But I have heard clothes rack but never hanger. |
