specially what happens to a,an,the in the plural forms

It �s all about subject verb agreement. Plural subjects make a plural form of the subject. Especially in the present simple where the verb gets an -s or -es in the 3rd person singular. In the past tense of �to have � the conjugation is �had � for all. In your sentence, when the subject is plural, it follows that one man can have a toothache but men cannot have a single toothache together. So: The old men had severe pains in their teeth. The articles �a� and �an� are used for single nouns only. �The� can be used for singular and plural nouns. Cheers.
